Primary Immune Deficiency Diseases in America: The First National Survey of Patients and Specialists

June 06, 1995

Conducted in 1995, this survey is based on all persons known to IDF as having a diagnosis of primary immunodeficiency (PI).

In 1995, the Immune Deficiency Foundation undertook the first national survey of the state of primary immunodeficiencies in the United States. The survey had several objectives, including:

  • Estimate the general magnitude of primary immune deficiency in the American population, if not a precise estimate of population prevalence.
  • Describe the general population characteristics of persons with these disorders.
  • Describe the health of persons with primary immunodeficiencies, both with and without treatment.
Identify problems in access to treatment in this population.
