After suffering from chronic illness and infections for more than forty years, Beth Sheridan was diagnosed with Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) in 2017 by her immunologist. During this time, her immunologist introduced her to the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF).
Once Beth began receiving support from IDF and treatment for her CVID, she started feeling healthier than ever before. Beth describes, “IDF has been a paramount resource for me in learning about CVID and finding answers to my questions. I have attended IDF events to learn more and connect with others with PI. It’s been invaluable.”
Unfortunately, as Beth headed into 2022, she was worn down and sick with COVID-19. Not making things any better, Beth was also behind on her infusions due to an insurance change in pharmacies. Instead of feeling powerless, Beth wanted to take control back into her life, and she thought raising money for the PI community would do just that. That is why she decided to host a Facebook fundraiser in honor of her birthday to support IDF.
In just a few weeks, Beth raised more than $190 for IDF. Beth shares, “Setting up a birthday fundraiser with Facebook was very simple. Facebook allowed me to choose the charity of my choice and have donations sent directly to IDF. I did not have to deal with collections or tracking of the donations. It was a very smooth process, and I highly recommend it.”
Being sick throughout January brought home to Beth how much her life had changed for the better once she received her diagnosis and support from IDF. She says, “IDF is a fabulous organization that supports so many living with PI. We rely so heavily on IDF’s resources and advocacy. I would strongly encourage anyone to consider donating or fundraising to support the PI community.”
